Counting calories – how to start?

I have intensively concerned with the topic „counting calories“ and I do it daily, of course, because that’s my path, which I chose to finally fight my obesity (strong overweight).

Those of you who have been following me for a while have already noticed that I have been involved in weight loss since I was 10 years old.

I’ve tried many possible diets since then and participated in such as Eat the half, food combining, Hollywood diet, all diet drinks ……. Unfortunately, again and again with the famous yo-yo effect, as soon as I have fed back to normal.

Movement is simply indispensable if you have decided to lose weight. In my youth I have been doing aerobics, swimming and jazz dancing. Now I found out, that I love strength training and cardio units.

What I really want to tell you is that all sorts of diets that are still around, such as Low Carb, Paleo, Ketogenic diet, Asia diet and and and ……. Sure, they bring success, no question, but not permanently. In other words, if you want to lose a lot of weight in long-term and sustainably, the goal is to achieve a calorie deficit. With a combination of counting calories and movement! Without calorie deficit, no decrease, that’s fact!

I deliberately chose to count calories because I also wanted to get a feeling for what I eat so day after day and above all how much. For me, it was also important to be able to combine this with my daily routine and with my family, without having to cook twice or three times. An important point to keep in mind, because nothing is more demotivating if you have to eat something different, such as your partner or family. This does not really work in the long run, I know that from my own experience.

Well, but what happens if you choose to count calories?

Thanks to the technology today, it is a simple one! There are many apps that use personal data such as height, weight, activity frame, and target weight to calculate how much personal calorie needs are. This will be adjusted during the decrease, depending on the new weight, repeatedly.

Both have a diverse selection of foods, as well as a scan feature to scan products that you may not find listed, and both have the recipe function to calculate your own recipes. Wonderful for me, because I like to cook fresh!

At the beginning it is really stunning to find out, which foods have many calories. You start to look for foods that will fill you up for a long time and are good for your values. The kitchen scale becomes a faithful companion in the kitchen. At first I thought it was idle, but it is not.
A booklet, a pen and the kitchen scale have become a must before cooking. Often I just cook without a recipe, just starting with food I have in storage, so it is that I first weigh everything in advance and enter in my booklet, and then later to write down in my appto determine the calories.
It also has to be practiced and will get better and better over time.

Since everyone has a different taste, I can not tell you what to eat. You have to go your own way and find out what’s good for you and your personal lifestyle.
